Hello, I'm Lucy, and I opened The River Mouse just before Christmas 2025, taking a beautiful, Georgian shop space in a building that I share with Hidden Store on Pierrepont Place, Bath. It is tucked away but worth finding!
The idea for the shop was to create a space that celebrates UK designed children's goods but with a little magic so that shopping for, and with, children is joyful.
The shop also aims to be a celebration of community, a relaxed place to be away from the bustle of the high street with lots of events peppered through the year celebrating all things indie.
My shop is a pipe dream come true, and the coming together of my loves - all things small, magical and well-made.
The River Mouse
Suspended above the shop lives The River Mouse himself who can be found aboard his miniature narrowboat, chugging along a floating river – an invitation for little (and big!) people to look up and slow down.
The idea for this came about a few years ago - I wanted to install a little magic that would allow me to story-tell, that would stick in little people's minds, and was the type of thing that you remember from childhood.
The boat is a mini replica of my grandpa’s boat, Maeve, which he converted from a barge in the 70s just beneath Pulteney Bridge. He was a doctor at RUH and would finish work there, and begin work on Maeve every evening before heading home to Bristol.
We spent many happy holidays chugging along the waterways aboard Maeve when I was tiny.
The mouse... well, why not?! I have many plans for him. Watch this space for more of his story...
Championing UK Design
The shop below is a celebration of UK-designed and sustainably-sourced childrenswear, toys and gifts.
The brands I work with are based all over the UK, but I'm proud to stock some that are hyper-local - from Bath, Somerset and Bristol.
Working with small, creative businesses is such fun and I love nothing more than discovering beautiful new products from the minds of clever creative people (and getting to collaborate on new ones!).
Each month, I host a new brand on my 'Guest Rail' in store. This is a rotating display of independent kids clothing designers, makers and curators - so far we have hosted brands like Lamb London, Tiny Colours, Wexbaby and Freddie and Friends on the rail.
I am also a trained shoe fitter and operate a shoe-fitting service (up to size 10) from the shop. Shoes are sourced from international brands that truly care about children's foot health.
